Transporting Animals in Passenger Cabin
Please understand that, in the interest of all passengers, we can only accept a limited number of small animals in the cabin. Animals must remain on the floor in their closed carrier during the entire flight. The size of the carrier (ventilated and waterproof, lockable – available at pet shops) may not exceed the measurements of 55 x 40 x 20 cm for carry-on baggage. Unfortunately, we are unable to transport birds or rabbits in the passenger cabin. They must be transported in the cargo hold in an approved escape-proof transportation box. Hamsters, mice or guinea pigs cannot be transported.
Transporting Animals in Hold
Special animal transport containers can be purchased at major German airports or pet shops. They must be ventilated, waterproof and escape-proof.
When animals are transported in the cargo hold, the following information must be furnished: weight of the animal incl. its container, and the precise dimensions of the container. When dogs are transported, we need to know the name of the breed; without this information, we will not be able to transport the dog.
Transporting Animals to Germany
If dogs or cats are brought to Germany for the sake of animal welfare, customers have to confirm with their signature that they have read and agree with the conditions of carriage.
Special Provisions
Fighting Dogs
The following breeds are generally not accepted for transportation: Pitbull Terrier, American Pitbull, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bullterrier, Bullterrier, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Kangal (Karabash), Caucasian Ovtcharka, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff.
The airline may refuse to transport the animal in case of non-compliance. The airline cannot be held liable for any damages, indirect or otherwise, that may result from this refusal.
Individual Provisions for Dubai/Sharjah/Britain/Ireland/Sweden/Malta
Please note that animals may not be transported in the cabin (PETC) or in the cargo hold (AVIH) on flights from/to Dubai and Sharjah.
Travelers who take their animals to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden and Malta must comply with the previous, stricter regulations including blood tests and hepatitis vaccinations for another five years.
Service Animals
For security and capacity reasons, we can only accept dogs with a confirmed reservation and documented training. Service animals are transported free of charge. An animal passport is mandatory according to EU guidelines. A service animal does not have to be put up in a transport container but may travel together with the passenger whom the animal is accompanying. We ask that you make a reservation for a service animal as early as possible. A muzzle must be carried for the service animal for safety reasons.
